On April 17, Congress will honor Professor Muhammad Yunus with the Congressional Gold Medal for his lifelong mission of ending poverty and his innovative microfinance work, including the creation of the Grameen Bank. (See the announcement from Speaker Boehner’s office.)
In support of this celebratory event, we have been working for several weeks to organize events in New York and DC, and we pushed to make as many of these events available to the public as possible.

Professor Muhammad Yunus lecture at New York University
Monday, April 15 from 4:45 pm EDT
Prof. Yunus will speak with students from the NYU Stern School of Business and NYU Wagner School of Public Service during a special lecture and Q&A session. Prof. Yunus will discuss his passion and vision for serving the poor through inclusive social businesses – passion and vision which created Grameen Bank and dozens of related companies and initiatives serving millions of poor households in Bangladesh and around the world. Utilizing Social Media to Highlight the Yunus Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony: Training Call

Join social media experts to learn how you can use Facebook and Twitter to urge decision-makers and the media to honor Professor Yunus. Volunteers from RESULTS (our sister organization) played a huge role gathering support for the legislation that awarded Professor Yunus the Gold Medal back in 2009 and 2010. The Microcredit Summit Campaign and our partners will be live tweeting the Gold Medal Ceremony on April 17, and you’ll learn on this call how you can help amplify Professor Yunus’s message to engage your own networks.
Morning Joe will devote tomorrow’s broadcast to the evolving story of the Boston Marathon bombing that occurred at 3pm this afternoon.

Gold Medal Ceremony
Wednesday, April 17 from 11 am – 12 pm EDT

Lecture at Georgetown University: “Social Business and Microcredit for Women’s Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation”

More than 600 people are expected to attend this lecture hosted by Melanne Verveer’s new Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, The SFS M.A. in Global Human Development Program, and the Yunus Center.
