The Microcredit Summit Campaign, together with others, is fostering a series of partnerships committed to reaching the extreme poor with useful financial tools and services to support their journey out of poverty.

This is the start of what we call the 100 Million Project—an initiative launched to galvanize the microfinance community as a partner in the global battle to end extreme poverty. This project is building a global coalition of actors who make and fulfill Campaign Commitments of specific, measurable, and time-bound actions they will take in the next year or so to be part of the movement to help 100 million families lift themselves out of extreme poverty.

A Campaign Commitment must be specific, it must have a measureable objective or an output, and it must have a near-term deadline for accomplishment. As a coalition we value long-term action plans, but we feel strongly that long-term goals must ultimately be rooted in specific next steps in order to become actionable and achievable. Therefore, Campaign Commitments are focused on the near-term over 12-18 month periods. We hope Commitments can be a platform for supporting the completion of existing long-term plans and goals among coalition members by helping set and hold ourselves and each other accountable to year-by-year benchmarks.

Campaign Commitments will be the first global and measurable set of commitments by a wide range of organizations from different sectors expressly established to support achieving the end of extreme poverty. Here at the beginning of a new year, the Microcredit Summit Campaign is making its New Year’s Resolution to work with both our current and new partners and find new allies in the global movement to end extreme poverty.

The 2013 Partners against Poverty Summit was a moment in history as the 100 Million Project was launched with the first 18 Campaign Commitments. For the 2014 Summit we will aim to work with our partners to grow the coalition to organizations representing 50 Campaign Commitments.

We announce our resolution to also promote and support the increased use of reliable tools among our allies and partners for accurately assessing our poverty outreach and our progress in supporting the extreme poor’s movement out of poverty over the next years. We will do this by engaging with our coalition partners to increase awareness about viable poverty benchmarking tools available to the industry and how best to use these tools to benefit both clients and the institutions serving them through training events, virtual learning opportunities, and publication of resource materials.

The Campaign is seeking more coalition members, who are willing to state their Commitment to ending extreme poverty through the work they are engaged in already, through new initiatives they seek to implement, or through new partnerships they wish to form. We invite you to join this coalition to end extreme poverty by working with us to form and announce a Campaign Commitment as your 2014 New Year’s Resolution.

Join the Microcredit Summit Campaign and state what specific, measurable, and time-bound actions your organization will commit to completing to reach the “100 Million Goal,” and thereby take a major step toward ending poverty by 2030.
